This is the process of making one of the sculptures.  The blue film I used to transfer what I drew to the glass for etching is a product from Rayzist Photomask, Inc.  The pigment is a mixture of mason stains and a finely powdered frit for use with ceramics.  Mason stains by themselves cannot fuse to glass, so by mixing them with the other material, which is essentially finely powdered glass, I can fire the pigment on and it will be permanent.  Using the mason stains, you can get effects very much like watercolor.

The stylized acanthus is a metaphor for Divine mercy.  Acanthus marks water sources, and in an incredibly dry climate, like the Arabian peninsula, water is a treasure whenever it’s found.
