One of my favorite Christmas-y tunes is one written in the 17th century, popular in both England and the young Colonies. Christmas is celebrated around the Winter Solstice, when the shortest day of a dying year promises new life, birth, and hope. The fierce cold of winter is overcome, the song shares, through the closeness of family and friends. Hopelessness and death is defeated through love and togetherness. As Ben Stein shares, this is a remarkable message – for everyone.
